I’m sorry to say you have a very shoddy edition of this mini-series. I did side by side screen grabs of my old region 1 single disc DVD version and the new UK two disc version is a very poor transfer. The shading is incredibly dark and at points the contrast that Victor’s skin is almost pink and some scenes so dark all you can see is the glint of Luke Goss’s teeth. The picture was NOT like that in the original US release.

Seek out the region 1 DVD and you’ll see what I mean. As for Luke’s appearance You never read the novel, did you? The creature looked like this Pale, gaunt, tightly drawn skin that wrinkles easily with his facial expressions, wavy long black hair and oddly perfect teeth. But he’s eight feet tall, pieced together from the dead, and has watery eyes. This adaptation follows the novel in nearly every detail. If you’re going to watch a mini-series adaptation of the BOOK don’t try to compare it to Karloff. Actually pick up the damn novel.
