Byline: GORDON BARR WITH 20 million albums sales behind her, Alison Moyet is going back to the sound we first came to know her for. The minutes, on which Alison worked with producer Guy Sigsworth, was released this week and marks a return to Alison's electronic roots and will be the focus of her 2013 tour, accompanied by programmed material from Yazoo and her solo back catalogue. She brings the tour to The Sage Gateshead on October 6 and is already looking forward to it. 'It's always a really good crowd up there,' she says. 'I feel really good about this album. What's been lovely with working with electronica again is you can get so many colours going on and that has really allowed us to be far more pictorial about it.
'I fell into that old Janis Joplin trap when I first started writing of everything being about heartbreak and heartache. It was the blues leftover kind of thing. 'But a couple of songs into this album I really got bored with that and wanted to find other subject matter to deal with.' She was helped along by producer Guy Sigsworth, with whom she had a meeting of the minds. 'I've been looking for someone like him for such a long time but it has always been hindered by the fact I am not the most social of people,' she smiles.
Alison Moyet The Minutes Review
'I got introduced to him and what was perfect was that I wanted someone who could work with electronica and was a programmer but also who had a really keen musicality. 'You look back to the 90s when all those hideous remixes were done, it was all a nod towards the sounds that were happening and not taking into account the melodic structure or the voice.' 'The great thing about Guy is not only is he this great technical wizard but also he started out as a Cambridge harpsichordist so his musicality is absolutely top notch.
